I’m bummed, but there’s no use moaning about it, not when my eldest turned ten over the weekend.
Originally, we were to take her and some friends to see the new Scoob! movie in theaters. But when the world went into lockdown, aaaaaall that changed. We managed a day of coded messages, dandelion seeds, and mysterious footprints for a present hunt, all topped with chocolate milkshakes and Scooby-Doo cake. I could not bring myself to break from her to write here, and I have a feeling none of you would want me to, either. x
Even now I can’t just sit and gab about Diana Wynne Jones. As much as I love her work, I want to give Blondie another moment in the sun with you here. So today, let’s hear from Blondie about what she loves to read in a Fantasy, and then let her update us on her upcoming summer adventures. So first, let’s hear about Blondie’s new favorite series, Last Dogs.
Despite Biff and Bash going at it in the hallway instead of cleaning their room, Blondie and I continue towards another fantasy series, one she loves to reread–Endling.
One of Blondie’s presents was a video game based on The Guardians of Ga’Hoole, which got Blondie back into reading this long’n’awesome series.
And now, at long last, we talk of Blondie’s dragons and her own comic creation, Captain Fantastico. (I’ll attempt pictures when Blondie colors them. Her sketches are TINY!)
For this ten-year-old, the best fantasies bring animals–and sometimes people–together in a strange land to fight for hope. I think we could all use an adventure like that, don’t you think?

I told Blondie a similar sentiment. We were talking about overcoming fears, and I mentioned that as a parent, I worry about her and her brothers every day…and that I will continue to worry about them even when they are all grown up, because no matter how old they are they’re still my kids. xxxxxxxx

What an interesting series of interviews, but you saved the best to last! I was listening to Blondie talk about her Captain Fantastico character while I was watching my hen, Clarissa, having her breakfast outside my window. She was chasing the naughty squirrels away (peck, peck, peck). I wish I’d managed to get it on camera!
And Sparky would really like the chocolate cake recipe if your dragons would care to pass it on to him, Blondie, you know dragon to dragon… 😉

Scoobs is so frustrating. Son has been so looking forward to it it was supposed to be released here on the 15th. It looks like you can watch it via steaming in many parts of the world now, but not the UK. So we have been rewatching a wonderful fantasy series called Yonderland. It’s by the original cast of the BBC kids series Horrible Histories. They did the comedy movie about Shakespeare (Bill) and have also done a tremendous series about a haunted house called Ghosts. Look after yourself xxxx

Yonderland, I heard of that! You recommend? Those sound like smashing shows. Scoob is here for streaming, yeah, but it costs around 20 bucks just to stream it–you can’t even keep it. Noooooo thank you. So Blondie’s been waiting for our copy of Scoob to come. We managed a fine birthday in spite of everything, complete with several chocolate shakes 🙂 Hope you’re staying sane!

Gone completely mad…. Yonderland is so like a Pratchett story. They did 2 series. It’s brilliant for the family. The next one as well, Ghosts, is so inventive. x
