Level Up the Art: An Update From My Dragon Girl Blondie

Welcome back, my fellow creatives!

As I have written some focused posts on Biff and Bash, I thought it was time Blondie stopped by and shared how her own creative life is coming along. My dragon girl has come so very far in her art, and I could not be prouder. x

A gift from Blondie to me five years ago in 2019

High school is going alright so far. I’ve been getting used to running around to different classes all the time and have been making some new friends. Otherwise nothing very exciting is going on and that’s just fine with me.

The fox scratch art took a few days to do in art class. I used a black and white photo to help get the shading right, since taking away more gives you brighter areas and is very hard to get used to. I don’t have much to say about this one except that I’m glad it turned out nice. 🙂

This wormy dragon isn’t anyone specific and is just a cool design I came up with. The swirly pattern of his scales took forever but I think it still looks cool. (RIP to my wrist, though.) Plus the shiny thing in his forehead is a third eye not a gem or something just to clarify.

This is a dragon sculpture I made in art class and it took a very long time to do compared to my other stuff. It’s made with armature wire, newspaper, aluminum foil, and plastercraft. I don’t know if any of you have worked with wet plaster craft before, but it was verrrrry slimy and kinda hard to work with at first. Considering I’ve never really worked with 3D mediums before this turned out alright.

This little Hollow Knight sketch is just something I drew when it was raining. I love when it’s raining outside, since it’s so peaceful and gives me good ideas. I also love the game Hollow Knight for how phenomenal it looks and how fun it is to explore the vast map. (I stopped playing the game for a while after getting very mad at a boss, but it’s still a good game) The atmosphere was perfect so this doodle of the little guy was born. I’m still proud of how the stag station sign turned out. 🙂

This is blobcat. He first spawned on my notebook in school, and now he has infested my sketchbook and my current school planner. He has many different forms, some more cursed than others, and below are just a few examples. He can mold his body into anything, and is something to be feared, since he can easily be drawn onto any paper and infect your mind into drawing more and more of him, until he has fully taken over your doodling. Beware of this creature, and approach drawing him with caution.

This is one of my main original characters, Hurricane. I’ve probably written about her before on here before but she’s changed a lot since then. This is her human form, but she is still a dragon. She’s a pirate (literally), and she’s very adventurous and a bit reckless. She usually doesn’t take things very seriously but is a formidable opponent in battle. In her human form she uses a couple flintlock-looking pistols and can fling water like bullets when she’s out of ammo. (she still has her water powers of course) Overall the biggest changes I’ve made to Hurricane is her personality and designing her human form. You will probably hear more about her in the future since she’s one of my favorite characters.

Drawing out my characters and stuff help me put my visualizations in front of me instead of just living in my head. It helps finalize characteristics of characters and make sure I like the new stuff I’m thinking of adding to them. They almost always don’t turn out great, but that’s fine. At least I get a few drawings that I can look back on and be proud of or amuse myself with.

I hope to be able to write a bit more to you guys! I know I’ve been neglecting to do that for a very long time, so I want to get back to it. Thank you so much for all your support!

Thanks for sharing, my little wonder. x

As for next week? Well I’d love to chat about witches with you and the power of messing about with a reader’s expectations. 🙂

Read on, share on, and write on, my friends!

  1. Oh wow Blondie. I love blobcat in all his forms. It’s warming up here in Australia so I guess I’ll be seeing the butter versions of him. You’ve really captured movement in the human form of Hurricane. Bravo!

    • I’m glad you like blobcat! I drew him once back in 8th grade and he’s stayed with me ever since. I hope to create more interesting forms for him and maybe a bit of a backstory? And thank you! That drawing turned out better than I thought it would. 😀
