I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to be drinking this much orange juice, but if I can’t over drink the coffee and I’ve already burned my tongue on tea, then I’m having OJ, dammit.
This post is the equivalent of me scribbling a note in the lecture hall in the midst of a talk on world-building. Yup–the literary conference of my university is in full-swing. I’m trying to hit as many talks as possible before I have to get the kids, because taking kids into a lecture hall–even a virtual lecture hall–is a pain in the patoot. So far it’s been a nice day, and reminding me that I better practice what the heck I’m saying for an hour, and then making sure I’ve picked the right nonfiction piece to read later in the afternoon.
Noooo pressure, Jean, no pressure.
A little wish of good luck would be deeply appreciated!
In the meantime, I’m digging this post from 2018 out of my pocket because the Oscars had Queen perform, and I do so love that band. Click here and enjoy!

After you read about Queen helping to inspire my novel Fallen Princeborn: Stolen, don’t forget you can grab the novel for less than a dollar! The short story collection Tales of the River Vine is still free, as is my short story shared exclusively with newsletter subscribers.
Yikes! The workshop ended. Time to find the next e-room. See you tomorrow, folks!

Pob lwc, as we say in Wales (I think you can guess what it means!). 🙂

Your clever. What’s your take on The Oscars? Ego’s or art? I’ve been thinking about it since Monday morning – doesn’t say much for me! ~ George

Oh I think it’s both. The Academy usually went for films that people didn’t flock to, artsy things that may have been ambitious, or dark, or some such thing, but were never going to appeal to a big audience. (I think Deer Hunter’s a good example of that.) Now the pressure’s on to be social justice warriors, so the Oscars looks like it’s mostly about putting out an agenda now to show off its progressiveness, only they usually aren’t progressive enough for the loudmouths.
A shame, really, that awards can’t simply be given for, oh, good stories with good storytellers. Everything’s got an agenda, a selling point. I haven’t bothered watching them for years.
Though I will say Olivia Coleman’s acceptance speech was quite nice. Caught that snippet in a news article. 🙂

I’m not too sure about awards for anything, especially awards people chase to get. You did the right thing not watching ~ George

Thanks. America’s got such an “Everybody’s a winner!” mentality that no one knows how to earn a true victory anymore, let alone lose graciously.

Thank you! Here’s hoping I can write tomorrow’s update under waves of relief and not, you know, tears.

Thanks. 🙂 Isn’t that a great movie? I love it. As far as urban fantasies go, I think this nails it. Course, then they had to go and make sequels…
